Dental care

A dental is a scale and clean under general anaesthetic, with any bad teeth removed at the same time. Most dentals are done in one session.

What’s included

  • A check of your pet’s teeth and gums before the dental
  • Scale and clean under general anaesthetic, £185 for dogs
  • Removal of loose, broken or infected teeth
  • Scale, clean and extractions, £210 to £800 depending on how many teeth come out
  • Most dentals done in one session
  • Advice on keeping your pet’s teeth clean at home

What to expect

  1. Dental check

The vet looks at your pet’s mouth at a consultation and tells you what treatment is likely to be needed and what it’s likely to cost.

  2. Before the day

We’ll tell you when to stop food the night before the dental.

  3. The dental

With your pet under general anaesthetic, the vet cleans the teeth above and below the gum line and removes any teeth that need to come out.

  4. Going home

We’ll explain how to care for your pet’s mouth while it heals and what to feed.

Aftercare

  • Your pet may be sleepy on the first evening. Offer a small meal.
  • If teeth were removed, feed soft or soaked food for as long as we advise.
  • Give any pain relief exactly as prescribed.
  • Avoid hard chews and toys until the mouth has healed.
  • Start brushing again when we say it’s comfortable. Use a pet toothpaste, never a human one.
  • Call us if your pet stops eating, or you notice swelling or bleeding from the mouth.

From our clients

“We took Tom, our AA rescue, for dental surgery. The whole experience was amazing — quick booking, excellent care, and brilliant aftercare advice. We were quoted £1,100 elsewhere, but paid £600 here and everything was completed in one session. Thank you for making quality vet care affordable.”

Questions

How much does a dog dental cost?

A scale and clean is £185. If teeth need to come out, it’s £210 to £800, depending on how many are removed.

Why is the price a range?

It depends on how many teeth need to come out. The vet can often see this at the check, but sometimes it only becomes clear once your pet is under anaesthetic.

Does my pet need a general anaesthetic for a dental?

Yes. Cleaning below the gum line and removing teeth can only be done safely and properly while your pet is asleep.

What are the signs of dental problems?

Look out for bad breath, brown tartar, red or bleeding gums, dropping food, chewing on one side or pawing at the mouth. Many pets hide dental pain, so regular checks help.

How can I look after my pet’s teeth at home?

Brushing every day with a pet toothpaste is the best thing you can do, and dental chews can help too. Ask us for advice on getting started.

Do you do dentals for cats?

Yes. The prices on our list are for dogs, so we’ll check your cat’s teeth first and give you a quote.
